Join Amy Staley and Regina Yuen to recount their experiences to advocate on behalf of nursing, public health, and the Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 80 this year. They will provide key insights on how nurses collaborate alongside communities globally to make an impact.

This course will retire after 1st October 2028.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

After participating in this course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)
  • Verbalize an understanding of how nurses can contribute to the SDG’s
  • Provide an example of how global nurses can collaborate with global organizations to impact advocacy and policy change from a local to global scale

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHIES

Amy Staley, MSN, RN, NEA-BC
Amy Staley is an award winning global nurse leader based in New York City. Amy is the Patient Care Director of the Neuroscience ICU/Step-down unit at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center (NYP/WC). Outside of the workplace, Amy is proud to represent both her patients and fellow colleagues by multiplying and amplifying the voices of the nursing profession as a Sigma United Nations Youth Representative. In 2022, Amy spoke at the 77th United Nations General Assembly events, where she advocated for both vaccine and health equity for the United States and Africa, among other nations. Since this event, she has spoken in over 150 countries as a proud registered nurse. Some of her noteworthy work has taken place in collaboration with the World Health Organization, Johnson& Johnson, Harvard University, ICN Congress, People Power Health, and the Africa CDC. Amy is proud to serve as a Sigma United Nations Youth Representative.

Regina Yuen, RN, MPH
Regina Yuen is a registered nurse from Canada/Hong Kong who began her career in an under-resourced emergency medicine department. Since then, she has developed and expanded her skillset by working in public health in the Canadian subarctic, emergency management with the Canadian Red Cross, and worked in the field in South Sudan with humanitarian organization Doctors without Borders.

Regina completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Windsor, and a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. She is a proud member of the Sigma Tau Upsilon chapter.

As a Sigma Youth Representative to the United Nations, Regina aims to promote health equity through the Sustainable Development Goals. She aspires to utilize her diverse experiences in nursing alongside her knowledge of policy, health systems strengthening, and health in emergencies to advance accessibility to health globally.
