Nursing Beyond the Bedside: 60 Non-Hospital Careers in Nursing introduces nurses and nursing students to career opportunities outside the hospital setting-in areas where RN job growth is projected to stay strong as patients live longer but with more chronic illnesses. This book provides practicing nurses and those pursuing a nursing career a thorough understanding of the many career options available outside the hospital.

Author Susan E. Lowey describes how these non-hospital careers allow nurses to take on varied roles and responsibilities to deliver comprehensive healthcare to their patients. Each of the 60 non-hospital nursing careers includes a basic job description, the educational preparation or skills required, typical work hours and settings, availability of specialty certifications, and links to professional organizations and online resources for that specialty.

Doody 4 Star Review

“This is a helpful resource for nursing educators to provide to their students who are contemplating career choices. It also can be used in undergraduate courses that teach nursing roles and leadership. The book is clearly written. Although the information can be found online with a quick search, a guide with all the different roles in one place may be a benefit, especially during career advising.”
