Making a Difference: Stories from the Point of Care, Volume I, is the revised and updated version of the immensely successful Making a Difference book that was first published in 2000. Like the original, this book reminds nurses why they chose their profession ... and makes health care consumers glad they did! Gripping the heart, it is a compelling collection of personal experiences told by nurses around the world. The stories are woven together by the insightful observations of Sharon Hudacek, RN, EdD, and paint a true picture of how nurses impact the lives of patientsfrom the moment life begins to the moment it ends. Complete with a new cover and easier-to-read format, the book includes a new introduction and 13 all-new stories from the point of care.

New stories include "Using Therapeutic Touch," by Katie Johnson. Katie shares the story of a "problem" patient whose pain was disregarded by other nurses because of the patient's constant complaints. Katie didn't accept that, and found a way to bring relief to an oft-overlooked and dismissed patient who sorely needed care. Sarah Udell Sullivan Henderson gives a remind in "Providing Praise," a story about an elderly Alzheimer's patient, that it isn't always just the patient who needs care. And, Marty Downey tells the story of Julie, a co-worker who finds herself alone in the hospital with her twin sons and the frightening positive lab result of cystic fibrosis. While the test is ultimately discovered to be a false positive, Marty shows us the power that results can have over patients and their families and how nurses are always there to help make a difference.
