Current President Ric Ricciardi will host a panel of past Sigma presidents and CEOs to reflect on the journey of the organization. Discover how Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing began as a local organization and grew to serve nurses around the globe.

This course will retire after 6th November 2024.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Upon completion of the opening plenary session, participants will be able to articulate at least one way Sigma serves nurses around the globe.

Richard Ricciardi, CRNP, PhD, FAANP, FAAN
Richard Ricciardi is a Professor and Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Center for Health Policy and Media Engagement at The George Washington University School of Nursing.

Sister Rosemary Donley, PhD, RN, APRN, BC, ANP, FAAN
Sr. Rosemary has positively influenced the nursing discipline and the health of our citizens by serving as President of the National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and as chair of CGFNS. She also served as Senior Editor of The Journal of Nursing Scholarship. She has authored over 130 publications and chapters in books and has presented papers throughout the world.

Patricia E. Thompson, EdD
Dr. Patricia E. Thompson is the Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. She has served in a variety of leadership positions in Sigma including international president from 1999-2001. Prior to assuming the CEO position, she was faculty and Associate Dean for Academic Programs at UAMS College of Nursing. Dr. Thompson is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.

Daniel J. Pesut, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. Pesut is internationally known for his ability to inspire and support people as they develop creative ideas and design innovative practices with a desired future in mind. Dr. Pesut is recognized as a master teacher and has held academic and administrative positions in both the education and public service sector. He speaks on the topics of clinical reasoning, foresight leadership, and future studies in nursing.

Carol J. Huston, DPA, RN, FAAN
Carol Huston is the lead faculty for the Sigma Experienced Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy and a Leadership Consultant for the Sigma Institute for Global Healthcare Leadership. She has taught nursing at CSU, Chico (CSUC) for 37 years. She served as the 2007-2009 President of Sigma Theta Tau International. Dr. Huston is the author of seven textbooks on leadership, management, and professional issues in nursing (23 editions total) and has keynoted more than 300 presentations worldwide.

Karen H. Morin, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN
Karen Morin is Professor Emerita, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where she served as PhD program director, and Major Professor. Dr. Morin has held teaching positions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Thomas Jefferson University, Widener University, the Pennsylvania State University, and Western Michigan University. She has extensive experience in nursing education, having taught students at all levels. She has published and presented nationally and internationally.

Suzanne S. Prevost, PhD, RN, FAAN
Suzanne Prevost is a Nursing Dean, a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and past president of Sigma Theta Tau International. During her presidency, she led the board in crafting a new mission, vision, and strategic plan; Sigma opened a satellite office in South Africa; and Sigma became a member of the Economic and Social Council of the UN.

Hester C. Klopper, PhD, MBA, RN, RM, FANSA, FAAN, ASSAF
Dr. Hester Klopper is an international academic leaders with extensive international networks. She is CEO of FUNDISA and Immediate Past President of Sigma. She holds a full professor appointment at INSINQ, a research unit at North West University. She is fellow/member of ANSA, IODSA, FAAN, ASSAF. On 2/11/2016, Oxford Brookes University (UK), will bestow an Honorary Doctorate on Hester in recognition of her contribution to nursing education and research globally.

Cathy D. Catrambone, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. Cathy Catrambone served as President of Sigma Theta Tau International for 2015-2017. Currently she is on the Global Advisory Panel for the Future of Nursing and Midwifery Executive Committee and Core Panel. Dr. Catrambone is an associate professor at Rush University College of Nursing. Currently, she teaches in the DNP and PhD programs with an emphasis on outcomes research, evidence-based practice, leadership development, and health policy. Her clinical background is in adult critical care.

Beth Baldwin Tigges, PhD, RN, CPNP, BC, FAAN
Beth Baldwin Tigges is the Past President of Sigma from 2017-2019. Dr. Tigges is an Associate Professor and Regents' Professor at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S. where she is funded as an investigator and Director of Evaluation on multiple U.S. National Institutes of Health research center grants, led initiatives related to team science, and teaches quantitative methods in the PhD program.
