What knowledge, skills, and abilities do you need for leadership at each stage in your career? Several reports, including the Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery (2021-2025) from the World Health Organization and the State of World's Nursing Report (2020), called for leadership development in nursing at all levels. Sigma Nursing, with support from the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, has answered this call. The Global Nursing Leadership Competency Framework establishes a guide for nurses seeking to evaluate their leadership.

SPEAKER BIOS:

Emily McWhirter, PhD, RN
Emily is a senior healthcare practitioner, with a PhD in nursing, a BSc(Hons) Midwifery and strategic healthcare management education at Harvard Business School, USA. She has worked in the National Health Service in the UK and the independent and charity sector for over 35 years, 20 at a senior level, across 4 London teaching hospitals, specialist centres and general hospitals.

Having been a Director of Nursing for three and a half years, which included leading a hospital through the Covid-19 pandemic as the hospital director for infection prevention and control, Emily has since worked for the Chief Nurse at the World Health Organization in Geneva.

Barbara Stilwell, PhD, MS, RN, FRCN, FAAN
Barbara Stilwell has a decades long interest in public health and in supporting health worker performance through a range of education and practice initiatives. She has worked for the World Health Organization and for non-profit organizations as a technical specialist in workforce development and education. She led the global Nursing Now campaign from 2018, through the challenges of the pandemic, until it ended in 2021.
